America has always been considered the place of opportunity however; there have been times that monopolies have removed that opportunity. Oracles purchase of Sun Microsystems has eliminated the largest open source software developer. The problem with Oracle purchasing Sun Microsystems is that they acquired their main competition in database technology, thus creating a monopoly in the database software market. In order to keep a diverse and fair market, Oracle was required to keep Mysql databases supported as a way of keeping competition, but only for a small amount of time. Awareness is needed because Mysql is used mainly by small business and is free of charge which allows them to be competitive against the larger companies that are trying to eliminate them. I believe that the purchase made by Oracle was unjust and is the beginning of monopolies once again in the US.
